The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. Diverging from the popular pop rock of the early-1960s, the Rolling Stones pioneered the gritty, heavier-driven sound that came to define hard rock.

Officially called “Tongue and Lips,” but usually just the Rolling Stones’ tongue, the image was designed by artist John Pasche in 1969 after Mick Jagger approached the Royal College of Art hoping to commission images for the band’s use.
